JOSE DEL C
Jose C. was born in Santa Helena del Opón (Santander del Sur), Columbia, South America in 1948. His youth was often overshadowed by the intense political strife during the 1950’s in Columbia.
Jose’s education during his early career included Mural Studies at the School of Fine Arts and Literature La Esmeralda in Mexico DF and later the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid - Spain to study fresco techniques.
During a period of much artistic activity (mid 70’s and early 80’s) Jose undertook the execution of numerous large scale murals and was represented in solo and group exhibitions in Columbia, Venezuela, Panama, Mexico, Italy, Spain, Yugoslavia and the USA.
In 1987-88 Jose’ was commissioned to undertake a series of elaborate murals as “Symbolic Portrait of Our Space Time” and the ceramic mural Recreation and Work in Armenia, Colombia. Expanding on his talents and turning to another medium, Jose’ created a series of sculptures in bronze: Teresa, Balance, The Brash, The Sap and Latino Breath . In the early 1990’s Jose’ then traveled to New York City where he created and exhibited his work. In 1994 Jose’ returned to Colombia for a year to work on the Mural: National Landscape. Oil on canvas. This large-scale mural was selected to represent Colombia at the Ninth Biennial of Valparaiso, Chile. Between 1995 and today Jose’ has regularly ndertaken tours and been represented in solo and group exhibitions in Latin America, USA and Europe.
Jose’ delC’s work has been widely exhibited in institutions, museums, and galleries internationally, most notably at the Institute of Art and Culture in Panama; the Institute of Art and Culture in Miami, Florida; the Museum of Contemporary Art, MAC Hall, August Columbia; Gallery Mirrachi, Mexico; United Nations University, Tokyo, Japan; Hall Arganda del Rey , Spain and Lex Park Studio, New York City.
The UP ART and DESIGN GALLERY collection of Jose’ delC’s Traveling Musicians has exhibited 16 of his much larger group of 40 drawings on Fabriano etching paper.
